Why GiveCircle exists

A force for good.

Every year, an estimated $2.4 trillion moves through informal savings circles around the world. Susus in West Africa. Tandas in Latin America. Hui in China. Paluwagan in the Philippines. Hagbad in the Horn of Africa. Sol in Haiti. For centuries, ordinary people have quietly built systems of mutual support that governments and banks never could, rooted in trust, community, and the simple belief that we are better together than alone.

This is not a niche practice. It is one of the largest financial ecosystems on the planet, and it is almost entirely invisible to the modern world.

GiveCircle exists to change that.

Traditional wealth redistribution flows downward, from governments, foundations, and charities through layers of bureaucracy before reaching the people who need it most. The overhead is enormous. The gatekeeping is exhausting. The dignity of the recipient is rarely considered.

Informal savings circles have always known a better way. Money moves horizontally, between peers, without intermediaries, without judgment, and without shame. Every participant is simultaneously a contributor and a potential recipient. That symmetry changes everything. It transforms charity into solidarity, and dependency into community.

The global informal savings circle market is massive, but it operates largely in cash, in person, and on trust alone. It has no infrastructure, no protection, no reach beyond the immediate community. When a susu organizer disappears with the funds, there is no recourse. When a member moves cities, their circle dissolves. When someone wants to join but has no existing community to plug into, there is no door to knock on.

GiveCircle is that door. It takes a $2.4 trillion ecosystem that has existed for centuries and gives it a home, open to anyone, anywhere, with an internet connection and a small, affordable monthly contribution.

At one million members, twelve recipients share a pool of up to $4 million every single month. At ten million members, that becomes $40 million monthly, flowing directly between people, with no bank taking a cut, no charity taking overhead, and no government deciding who qualifies.

This platform does not require a revolution. It does not require systemic change. It requires only that people who believe in each other show up, contribute what they can, and trust that their community will do the same.

That is not a radical idea. It is one of the oldest ideas in human history. GiveCircle is simply the first platform built to take it to the world.
